Can I link my Iowa One® Card to a Hills Bank UI Student Checking account?
Yes. Please visit any Hills Bank location to have your account information encoded on the black magnetic stripe of your Iowa One® Card.
What are the features of the UI Student Checking account offered by Hills Bank?
This account is designed for UI students so it's free and convenient. Learn more about the UI Student Checking account or ask a Personal Banker at 1-800-445-5725 (HILLSBK) for more details.
Do I need to open a Hills Bank checking account to charge on-campus?
No, when using the Iowa One® Card, charging is used to pay for on-campus purchases through the U-Bill for students and payroll deduction for employees.
A Hills Bank checking account gives you the option of enabling your Iowa One® Card for use at ATMs and retail locations with PIN-debit terminals. This is not a credit card; sufficient funds must be in your Hills Bank account to cover any purchases or withdrawals.
How do I close my checking account currently linked to my Iowa One® Card?
Please see a Personal Banker at any Hills Bank location and we will be happy to assist you in closing a non-Hills Bank account tied to your Iowa One® Card. Funding your new Hills Bank account is as simple as writing a check to yourself from you current account to deposit in your new account. Or, Hills Bank can initiate an electronic withdrawal from your current checking account to fund your new Hills Bank account.
If my parents don’t bank with Hills Bank, is there an easy way they can transfer money to my UI Student Checking account?
Yes. Xpress Transfer, a free transfer service for parents of UI students, allows Hills Bank to initiate an electronic withdrawal from your parents' account while providing immediate credit to your account. After completing the enrollment process, your parent simply needs to call our Customer Contact Center at 1-800-445-5725 to authorize the transfer.
How do my parents enroll in Xpress Transfer?
They should complete an Xpress Transfer enrollment form. They will need the account number and bank routing number for their account, as well as your account number. Please call our Customer Contact Center at 1-800-445-5725 for assistance.

You must show a valid government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license or passport, in order to obtain an Iowa One® Card.
If I am already a Hills Bank customer, how do I activate my Iowa One® Card and link it to my Hills Bank account?
When you receive your new Iowa One® Card, visit Hills Bank to get your information encoded on the black magnetic stripe.
Why are there two stripes, one black and one gold, on the back of the Iowa One® Card?
The black stripe contains bank information and can be used for PIN-debit transactions on a linked checking account. The gold stripe contains personal and UI information and can be used for on-campus purchases charged to your university account (U-Bill). Both stripes are labeled on the card.
Will I be able to customize my Iowa One® Card on the Hills Bank Picture Perfect debit card website?
No, you cannot customize your Iowa One® Card, but you can customize your debit card. Please visit the Hills Bank Picture Perfect debit card designer website and have your debit card number handy.
What are the hours of the IMU branch?
The IMU branch is open from 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday-Friday. The UI Hospitals and Clinics branch is open from 8:00 am-5:00 pm, Monday-Friday. The Iowa City Downtown branch in the Old Capitol Mall Town Center is open from 9:00 am-5:00pm, Monday-Friday, and 9:00 am-Noon on Saturday.
Will I pay a transaction fee when withdrawing at an ATM or making a purchase using my Hills Bank debit card or Iowa One® Card?
There is no fee when your card is used for withdrawals at Hills Bank ATMs or for making purchases. When you withdraw at non-Hills Bank ATMs, the ATM owner may assess a surcharge fee. For UI Student Checking, if you withdraw more than 6 times at non-Hills Bank ATMs during a monthly statement cycle, your account will be charged a $1.00 fee (sales tax included) for each withdrawal in excess of 6.
What happens if I lose my Iowa One® Card?
You need to report the lost card to the Iowa One® Card Center at 3 Jessup Hall or by calling 319-335-2716. You should notify Hills Bank only if your card was linked to a Hills Bank account. When you receive your replacement Iowa One® Card, bring it to any Hills Bank location to be linked to your account.

Will I be able to make my U-Bill payments at Hills Bank?

- Pay online through ISIS – information is securely transmitted and payments post within 10 minutes of authorization. After reviewing your u-bill online, click the "Pay U-bill" button and provide your bank information as instructed
- Mail your payment to the Payment Processing Center – the mailing address is displayed on the payment stub section of the “Printer Friendly Version” of the U-bill on ISIS.
- Drop off your payment at 5 Calvin Hall – payments may be dropped off during office hours (8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday-Friday). University Billing staff are available to answer questions and provide assistance setting up online payments.
