There are two magnetic stripes on the back of the card. The gold stripe is used for the UI Campus transactions listed. The black stripe is used for the optional ATM/PIN-debit functions available through Hills Bank.

If you choose to open a new UI Student Checking account at Hills Bank, you can use your Iowa One® Card for unlimited FREE access to all campus ATMs and Hills Bank ATMs throughout the Iowa City area. Your Iowa One® Card can also be used at retail locations that accept PIN-debit transactions.

A government-issued photo ID must be presented when you request a new or replacement Iowa One® Card.
What if my card is lost or stolen?

Do I need to open a Hills Bank checking account to charge on campus?
No, when using the Iowa One® Card, charging is used to pay for on-campus purchases through the U-Bill for students and payroll deduction for employees.
A Hills Bank checking account gives you the option of enabling your Iowa One® Card for use at ATMs and retail locations with PIN-debit terminals. This is not a credit card; sufficient funds must be in your Hills Bank account to cover any purchases or withdrawals.

Why am I unable to charge to my U-Bill?
- If you have a past-due balance on your U-Bill your charging privileges will be suspended.
- If you are an employee, make sure you have opted in for Charging and Payroll Deduction in Employee Self Service.
- If you are under the age of 18, you will not be able to charge unless a parent or legal guardian has signed a parental consent form for charging privileges.
- If none of the above situations apply, please contact the Iowa One® Card Center for further assistance.
